Candida is the most common opportunistic pathogenic fungus. Invasive Candidiasis (IC) accounts for approximately 50% of invasive fungal infection (IFI). Candida is the fourth leading cause of nosocomial bloodstream infection (BSI), causing a mortality up to 50%. The difficulty of early diagnosis results in nearly 70% of IC patients suffering from delayed antifungal treatment, seriously influencing the prognosis of patients and increasing the mortality rate of IC.

Mannan

 

Mannan is a major cell-wall component, accounting for 30~40% of the cell weight. Mannan is released into blood in the case of IC. It is considered as a biomarker helpful for the diagnosis of invasive candidiasis.
