Invasive Candidiasis (IC)

IC is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Candida albicans is the most commonly-isolated yeast in IC and occupies>65%. The burden of IC is tremendous in terms of morbidity, mortality and cost. Candida species is the fourth most common cause of all nosocomial bloodstream infections (BSI) and such infection has a mortality of~50%. Timely antimicrobial treatment is important for IC and a delay treatment would significantly increase the mortality of IC.

Candida albicans IgM/IgG Antibody Detection

It is an indirect ElAfor the detection of anti-mannan IgM/IgG in human serum or plasma. The antibodies are used for IC detection.

Serological Profile of IC

IgM exists in blood during the early stage of IC infection. A high level of IgM indicates a primary or ongoing infection.
The presence of IgG to Candida albicans implies a prior IC infection and suggests immunity. A significant increase of IgG level indicates an acute infection or a re-infection.

Diagnosis of IC

An early and accurate diagnosis of IC is critical to allow a timely treatment in order to improve the prognosis and avoid the abuse of antifungal drugs
