Gentamicin C2 sulfate, EvoPure®

Description

Gentamicin C2 sulfate is one of several gentamicin sulfate fractions that comprises standard gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic mixture of related compounds.

Gentamicin is composed of gentamicin C1, C1a, C2, C2a, and C2b. We offer seven forms of gentamicin: gentamicin sulfate (G006), gentamicin A sulfate EvoPure® (G035), gentamicin C1 sulfate EvoPure® (G031), gentamicin C1a sulfate EvoPure® (G032), gentamicin C2 sulfate EvoPure® (G033), gentamicin C2a sulfate EvoPure® (G034), and gentamicin X2 sulfate EvoPure® (G036). EvoPure® products are single purified antibiotic fractions, most >99% pure. High purity EvoPure® gentamicin products can be used to analyze specific effects of individual gentamicin fractions.

Mechanism:
Aminoglycosides target the 30S ribosomal subunit resulting in an inability to read mRNA ultimately producing a faulty or nonexistent protein.

Spectrum:
Gentamicin is a broad spectrum antibiotic targeting a wide variety of gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

Microbiology Applications:
Gentamicin sulfate is commonly used in clinical in vitro microbiological antimicrobial susceptibility tests (panels, discs, and MIC strips) against gram positive and gram negative microbial isolates. Medical microbiologists use AST results to recommend antibiotic treatment options for infected patients. Representative MIC values include:

Escherichia coli 0.25 µg/mL - 16 µg/mL
Pseudomonas aeruginosa 0.25 µg/mL - 8 µg/mL
